M104 - The Sombrero Galaxy

This way cool edge on galaxy with the great dust lane is also known as NGC 4594. The Sombrero is in Virgo, and has a magnitude 8.3 and size 8.0 by 5.0 arc-minutes. It is 50 million light years distant.

A composite of 6 five minute exposures binned 1x1. Taken with the ST8E on the 12" LX200 at f/6.3 with the AO7. Processed with CCDSharp. Taken May 10, 2002 at my home (Mistletoe Observatory).

Previous best taken at the ARGO site in central Oregon on Apr 1, 2000.

The image above is a composite of three 2x2 binned 5 minute exposures.  It was then processed by CCDSharp.  Taken with the ST-8E and 12" LX200 at f/10.
