Sh2-157

(Home)

Sh2-157 is a Sharpless Catalog diffuse emission nebula.  This region is on the boarder between the constellations of Cepheus and Cassiopeia.  It is just south and east of M52 and the Bubble Nebula.  It is about 8160 light years away, and 210 light years across giving an apparent size of around 90 arc-min.  Sh2-157 is a ring nebula around Wolf-Rayet 157.

The image below is a joint run with Tom Carrico taking luminance data, and me taking the color data.  I was at the Oregon Star Party site, and Tom was at his ARGO site (maybe 30 to 60 miles away).

The image above is a three part composite.  The color data is an RGB two part mosaic (top and bottom) taken with my SBIG ST-8E camera.  The luminance data was taken by Tom Carrico with his SBIG STL-11000XM.  The cameras were both on FSQ 106N scopes with AP900 mounts.  The data was taken across several nights from Aug 27 to 30, 2008  The final result represents a total exposure time of X hrs Y min.  Calibration and alignment were done in MaxIm DL.  Final processing was done with Photoshop.
